Academic Activity

Main achievements

  • The most important topics in my teaching activity are Digital Signal Processing, Advanced Techniques in Digital Signal Processing, Voice Communication Interfaces with Intelligent Systems, Biometric Technologies, and Computer Programming.
  • I introduced and organized in 2011 a new Master program in the Faculty of Electronics: “Multimedia Technologies in Biometrics and Information Security Applications” – BIOSINF (https://biosinf.pub.ro). The program was initiated in the framework of the project PROMISE (“An Integrated Master’s Degree Program in the Fields of Sound, Image and Multimedia Engineering”), FSE – European Structural Funds POSDRU project, ID 61178 (2010 – 2013). The general objectives of the program consist of, on the one hand, expert knowledge acquisition in the analysis and digital processing of audio signals, speech, images, and video sequences, especially using modern techniques based on artificial intelligence, with applications in biometrics, human-computer interaction, analysis and forensics for audio-video recordings (particularly speech), and the implementation of multimedia embedded systems; and, on the other hand, theoretical and practical knowledge acquisition in cybersecurity, the most rapidly growing field within the computer science and information technology industry.
  • I introduced in 1991 the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) course at the “Microelectronics” Department for the first time in the Faculty of Electronics as an independent subject; in subsequent years, this course was followed by similar courses in the other departments of the faculty. The approach is done in a personal manner, focusing on understanding the basic concepts and major techniques in digital signal processing, viewed from the system designer point of view. In 2002 I introduced a new (complementary) course: Advanced Techniques in Digital Signal Processing. It was designed as a continuation of the DSP course, addressing the domain in depth, and treating topics of greater complexity.
  • For all my subjects, I organized new laboratories for the application classes.
  • Since 1988, I have coordinated over 70 Diploma Projects (bachelor’s and master’s degrees) in the fields of electronic circuit simulation, microprocessor applications, digital signal processing, spoken language technology, audio and image forensics, biometric technologies, cybersecurity, etc.
  • I was a member in 3 national juries for PhD Theses and in 14 Guidance Committees for PhD students in the Faculty of Electronics.
  • From 2014 to 2018 I led the Coordinating Committee for activities related to computer programming and programming languages within the Faculty of Electronics.
  • From 2020 to 2024 I was member of the Ethics and Academic Integrity Commission of the University “Politehnica” of Bucharest, as a representative of the Faculty of Electronics.
